CLIMATE CHANGE
At Nsemkafo, we believe in taking urgent action to combat climate change and its devastating impacts. For us it is imperative to save lives and livelihood, and key to making the Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Goals, the blueprint for a better future, a reality.
We believe in adaptation to climate change and for us it is about helping people and economies thrive in the face of a changing climate. As adaptation solutions can often be found in nature, this has given rise to the concept of ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA).
We at Nsemkafo define Ecosystem-based adaptation as a strategy for adapting to climate change that harnesses nature-based solutions and ecosystem services. For instance, protecting coastal habitats like mangroves provides natural flood defences; reforestation can hold back desertification and recharge groundwater supplies in times of drought; and water bodies like rivers and lakes provide natural drainage to reduce flooding.
We promote a wide range of solutions, including nature-based solutions, National Adaptation Plans, early warning climate services, climate-resilient livelihoods, and much more.
Enhancing multi-sector planning and capacity for effective adaptation in Ghana.
We believe in ecosystem-based adaptation where vulnerable communities are informed about extreme weather while simultaneously providing information on a variety of ecological benefits so crucial for human well-being, such as clean water and food. Though primarily an adaptation approach, ecosystem-based adaptation can also contribute to climate change mitigation by reducing the emissions that transpire from habitat loss and ecosystem degradation.
