CHILD LABOUR

CHILD LABOUR AND TRAFFICKING

Today, an estimated 79 million children are engaged in dirty, dangerous and degrading work. Africa tops the list of regions with the highest prevalence of child labour, accounting for 72 million of all child labourers globally.

In Ghana,
one in six children aged 6-14 are engaged in labor activities in Ghana, with child employment being the leading alternative to schooling. Also, of all children in Ghana aged 5 to17 years, about 21 per cent are involved in child labour and 14 per cent are engaged in hazardous forms of labour.

Child labour is a significant problem in Ghana, affecting almost two million children

Nsemkafo believes in prevention of Child labour and trafficking and that one of the most effective practices to end child labor involves Community Child Protection schemes with committed volunteers who are informed and committed to monitor, and protect children in their area from the harm of child labour and trafficking.

Our aim is to use
preventive communication and advocacy to promote actions to prevent and stop the worst forms of child labor; including in fishing, cocoa production, mining and quarry.

Our objective is to
support reducing the number of children engaged in labour and direct national efforts towards achieving the SDG 8.7 - (Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour…)
